About

Adonna Lucas is in her nineteenth year of teaching college music students and is continually energized by her students’ desire to learn. She aspires to give students a strong foundation in their music courses that will challenge and prepare them for whatever area of service to which they are called--church musician, teacher, and/or graduate studies. Two of her former conducting students earned MM Ed. degrees at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. One notes,

“Conducting under the tutelage of Adonna Lucas undeniably increased my desire for and realization of the need to study conducting at the graduate level. Ms. Lucas expertly taught not only a cursory knowledge of conducting, but effectively relayed the subtle nuances and minute details that are extremely important in conducting. Upon entry into the graduate program, it was noted that I had received excellent and effective teaching in the area of conducting with focus on the intricacies that accompany said skill.” (Mrs. Kaylan Wells)

Miss Lucas has had the joy of directing PIU Chorale concerts in churches and schools in the states as well as Scotland and England. Both Chorale and His Proclaimers, a vocal ensemble she directs, have recorded CD’s at PIU.

Miss Lucas is currently the organist at Calvary Baptist Church. She has served as organist in churches for the past nineteen years. She had the privilege to study organ with several marvelous teachers; one in particular was Dr. Lucille Webb.  She understands the impact a professor can have on students and desires to motivate, inspire and encourage students to give their best to the Lord.
