About

Harlie Miller is a lifelong North Carolinian, who was raised in north Guilford County.  He has spent his life primarily in the Triad area.  He came to saving faith in Christ as an elementary student and gives testimony of God’s faithfulness to “direct thy paths” (Prov. 3:6).  His early love for sports propelled him to become an all-conference high school baseball player, after which he played at NC State University and Guilford College, where he earned all-conference honors and was a recipient of the English Athletic Leadership Award.

His work in education began at Vandalia Christian School (Greensboro), where he was a secondary math and science teacher for 13 years.  He was also a baseball, basketball, and volleyball coach, and served as the athletic director for more than a decade.  During that time he coached seven baseball teams to the final four and won two state championships.  In 2004 he accepted the positon of secondary principal of Salem Baptist Christian School (Winston-Salem), where he served for five years.  He became a professor at PIU in 2004, serving as the dean of the Moore School of Education since 2009.

Dr. Miller has taught at the Bangladesh Theological Seminary and at the English Teacher Training Institute at Yunnan Normal University in Kunming, China.  He has been a speaker to Christian educators in Penang, Malaysia and Goroka, Papua New Guinea.  He speaks regularly at various state and regional education conventions throughout the southeastern United States, including workshops on topics related to educational philosophy, psychology, and pedagogy.

In addition to his work in education, he is also on the staff of Gospel Baptist Church (Greensboro), where he has served since 1994 as an associate pastor and Bible teacher.  Additionally, he is on the faculty of the Greensboro Bible Institute, where he has taught evening courses since the early 1990s.  He has continued over the years to coach various athletic programs, including Upward Sports, high school volleyball, and baseball.  In the summer of 2012 he took a team of local high school baseball players to the Dominican Republic for both games and missions outreach.

He married Kellie Bush in 1990.  Together they have traveled and ministered internationally, served in various church-related ministries, and attended hundreds of youth sports events, but their greatest joy has been to raise two children “in the admonition of the Lord.”  Houston and Makayla are now in college.
