On Thursday, January 31, the PIU Bruins hosted the CCC Cougars. The Bruin Den was blacked out and packed out with Bruin fans ready to be the 6th man on the court. The importance of this rematch from earlier in the season was heightened by the return of All American and former Bruin, Mike Key. Piedmont got off to a great and powerful start going into halftime up by double digits. Starting in the second half, Mike Key would bring the Cougars back around. The lead was a power struggle back and forth until the final possession. With only seconds left on the clock, and several key players for Piedmont on the bench with foul trouble, Austin Decker lobbed a three quarter court shot, barley coming short. In overtime it was a thriller, but ultimately ending up in a one point loss to CCC with a final score of 100-99.
