Mrs. Sandra Perkins
A “baby boomer,” Mrs. Sandra Perkins’s physical roots are in Winston-Salem, NC. Though a Southern girl through and through, she has stretched her cultural roots by living in New York, England, North Dakota, northern Indiana, and the southern tip of Georgia---in that order. She has been married for thirty-eight years to her high school sweetheart, and they have three precious children---two sons and a daughter in between---and three absolutely wonderful grandsons, a set of twins and a one-of-a-kind toddler. For relaxation, she loves to decorate her house, ride four-wheelers in the mountains, vacation with her family in the Outer Banks, and, of course, read. Some of her favorite authors are Flannery O’Connor, Emily Dickinson, Margaret Atwood, and Thomas Hardy. Her favorite genres are poetry and short stories. She became serious about college and preparing for a career in teaching after her children were born. When the youngest went to school, “Mommy” started school with a major in history. Later, she switched to English and English pedagogy, earning an A. A. in history (Darton College), a B.A in English/Media Communications (High Point University), and an M.Ed in English Education (University of North Carolina @ Greensboro). She taught in a Christian day school for twelve years and has been a member of the Piedmont faculty for eleven years. Her spiritual roots began with a profession of faith at age eight in the Baptist church where her family attended, though she may not have been truly saved until age twenty-two, when she professed Christ in a small church in North Dakota. Her journey with the Lord has been one of rich experiences and manifold blessings. Her favorite Bible verses are Philippians 3: 13, 14 and Ecclesiastes 3:1 - 11.
