Dr. Gilbert Braithwaite

Gilbert BraithwaiteProfessor of Old Testament

Biography
II Timothy 2:15, I Corinthians 15:58
Gilbert George Braithwaite was born into a family with Christian parents, John and Joyce.  He grew up in Ferndale, Washington, and trusted Christ when he was about five years old.  But in teenage years, he became interested in dairy farming, because of a required vocational agriculture course.  He became involved in the activities of the Future Farmers of America.  His parents required him to memorize verses in the Bible Memory Association (now Scripture Memory Fellowship), and then attend BMA's Miracle Camp each summer.

After beginning college at Western Washington University, Gilbert completed his B.S. in Animal Science at Washington State University in Pullman.  While at WSU he was influenced by Pastor Ron Breckel of Bethany Baptist Church, to learn more about the Bible, and to live for Christ.  Gilbert graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1972 with a Th.M. in Bible exposition, and again in 1978 with a Th.D. in Old Testament and Semitic Languages.  At Dallas Seminary, he became both a Baptist and a separatist fundamentalist, having been influenced by Dr. George Houghton and Dr. Myron Houghton (both now of Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary, Ankeny, Iowa).  Through his involvement with BMA Miracle Camps, he met his future wife, Pamela Ann Worley.

Gilbert taught 16 years at Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary, Ankeny, Iowa.  Then he taught for 13 years at Northland Baptist Bible College, Dunbar, Wisconsin.  (During the years at Faith and Northland, Gilbert served as an Army Reserve chaplain, and later as chaplain with the Wisconsin Army National Guard.)   He next taught 4 years at Central Baptist Theological Seminary, Plymouth, Minnesota.  In 2009, he began teaching in the Piedmont International University's Graduate Studies as head of Old Testament and Hebrew.

God has blessed him and his precious Pamela with four children:  Joyanne Michelle (married to Peter Teachout, with four children – Peter, Roselynne, Mackenna, and Jack), Annette Kathleen (married to Christopher Watson), Benjamin Gilbert (working in support of Scripture Memory Fellowship, and soon to marry Kate Miller, a graduate of NBBC, Dunbar, Wisconsin), and Sterling Donald (student at PIU).
