Declaration of In-Dependence

July 5, 2013

Dear Piedmont Family,

June was an amazing prayer month at PIU, and our theme for the 2013-2014 academic year will be The Year of Prayer. Paul Smeltzer has a "Prayer Warrior" theme for RA's and will also lead prayer initiatives for PIU students in all of our different schools. Jim Hayes will incorporate prayer emphasis into his inspiring approach to missions emphasis throughout the year. We will also organize creative weekly prayer chapels and launch a comprehensive across-the-board prayer plan. Everyone is encouraged to develop a personal approach for the most effectual and fervent prayer year ever. I will focus on prayer in my chapel message, and would love to have your input. If you have a personal story of how God answered prayer, please pass it along. Also, feel free to pass along your favorite prayer illustrations, articles, messages, book recommendations, etc.

Yesterday, the United States celebrated Independence Day, and I thought that this would be a good time for PIU to rally around our own Declaration of In-Dependence for 2012-2013. As we pursue the exciting vision to grow in influence to become an internationally recognized leader in innovative, Bible-centered higher education for effective ministry in a constantly changing world (which includes the aggressive goal of graduating key, reproducing, gospel-focused leaders from every state and nation); more than ever before we recognize our utter necessity of total and complete dependence upon God. Let us commit to a year of consecration and diligent prayer and rejoice together as we see the mighty hand of God at work in our school and individual lives. This is our Declaration of In-Dependence.

Because God Alone Matters
